Admissions

Students admitted to Capitol Academy must meet the eligibility criteria established in Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations under one or more qualifying areas, such as Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability, or Multiple Disabilities. Students must also have documentation from their school district of residence and/or SELPA indicating that their needs cannot be appropriately supported within their local program.

To be considered for placement, Capitol Academy’s administration must receive a written referral request from the student’s district or SELPA of residence. Our team carefully reviews each referral to ensure our program is the right fit, and we work closely with families and district partners throughout the decision-making process. Capitol Academy’s administration then determines whether to accept or decline a student based on individual needs and available services.

When a student is ready, we support a thoughtful transition back to a public school setting. This occurs when the student’s IEP Team, including the district or SELPA representative, agrees that IEP goals have been met and that a return to public school would be an appropriate offer of FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education).
